The I. I. Mechnikov Odessa National University (Ukrainian: Одеський національний університет імені І. І. Мечникова, Russian: Одесский национальный университет имени И.И. Мечникова), located in Odessa, Ukraine, is one of the country's major universities. It was founded in 1865, by an edict of Czar Alexander II of Russia, reorganizing the Richelieu Lyceum of Odessa into the new Imperial Novorossiya University. In the Soviet period, the University had the name I. I. Mechnikov Odessa State University.

Odessa State National University named after Mechniсkov was founded in 1865. During 146 year activity it earned reputation of one of the best educational formations in Ukraine. The university is also highly recognized by world society - Odessa National University is recognized as one of the high ranked world universities (it occupies the 48th place in the world rating of universities). The university is named after scinetist I.Mechnikov (scientific fields are immunology, microbiology and evolutionary embryology), the Nobel prizeman in 1908.

Odessa National Mechnikov University consists of 4 institutes, 10 faculties, 7 specialized councils. The university is famous by its scientific library. The scientific library of the University is the biggest and the oldest Ukraine universities' library (3.6 mln. volumes issued from the 15th century till the 21st century).
